Justin May is a Los Angles based cinematographer

Born and raised in the Midwest, Justin grew up in a farming community on the outskirts of St. Louis, Missouri. He graduated from Webster University, St. Louis with a degree in Film, Television, and Video production. After school Justin worked in the St. Louis market for 5 years he learning the ropes in grip and lighting departments before making the jump to cinematographer. After moving to Los Angeles in 2021, Justin took his years of crew experience and began focusing on honing his craft as a DP full time.

He enjoys shooting narrative, and commercial work of all kinds and has been a part of hundreds of short films, features, commercials, and music videos. His work has taken him to 38 of the U.S. states and several countries around the world. Some of the clients Justin has worked with include Discovery+, Monsanto, and Starbucks. His narrative cinematography work includes over a dozen short films, and a Multi Season web series. His work can be found on both network television and streaming on several platforms.

He is an an associate member of the Society of Camera Operators and an avid lens event attendee. He loves talking shop and experimenting with new camera and lens combinations. He has guest lectured on cinematography at multiple universities around the country, including his alma matter Webster U and the University of California at Santa Barbra. When he is not on set, he enjoys being in the outdoors, watching movies, playing volleyball, and spending time with family and friends.
